Hildi is an exchange student from the Feroes Islands. She has come to this Secondary school Narcis Monturiol through the AFS program, and we have interviewed her to find out what it is like to go through that experience.
How did you discover AFS?
My mother went to AFS when she was my age, and it’s like many years ago now but, she went to the USA, so I always wanted to go.
Are there any differences between the Faroes Islands and Catalonia?
Everything, like the weather, the people, the culture…
Was that easy for you to integrate into the group?
Not really, like, because I came later than everyone else, so when I came everyone else were integrated, but I’m trying to do my best.
Why did you decide to come here?
I wanted to learn Spanish, first of all. And I thought it was a beautiful country, and everything, so I said: why not?
Why did you decide to make the exchange?
I’ve seen photos, like everything from my mother’s exchange year, so I wanted to experience that, as well…
Do you like your host family?
Yeah, they’re literally like the best.
Is there anything that you like from this school?
Yeah, I like the understanding of that, because I don’t know Spanish and Catalan, so they allow me to learn that.
Did you make any friends?
Yeah, I feel like I have, at least.
Did you come here with any friend or alone?
No, I came here alone, but I made friends here.
What do you think about the social work that AFS does?
When I first started AFS, I think it was to keep the peace between the countries.
